Launch and recovery systems

James Fisher Marine Services designs and manufactures a range of launch and recovery systems (LARS) to aid diver deployment. 

James Fisher Marine Services designs and manufactures LARS allowing diving operations to be conducted from fixed or mobile platforms, such as dynamically positioned (DP) vessels.

Designed to suit customer specific applications, all systems are mobile and flexible to ensure safe and efficient subsea operations. JFMS's designs systems include A-frame and 'Luffing' type A-frame diver deployment systems.

Diver deployment systems

Well-proven two and four-diver deployment systems are specifically designed for diving operations from vessels, rigs or platforms. Safety features are reliable primary and secondary recovery facilities which are of paramount importance for recovering divers in an emergency.

The standard deployment system comprises a diver's deployment A-frame, two hydraulic man-riding winches,
two-man dive basket and clump weight. All equipment is supplied complete with a certification data pack. These units are also available with an air winch option.

A-Frame diver deployment system technical overview

Comprising an adjustable A-frame, two top-mounted hydraulically-controlled man-riding winches, a diving cage, control box and clump weight, the JF Subsea diver's A-frame system provides a safe, compact and flexible method of deploying and recovering divers, while being easy to transport, install and store.

Luffing type A-frame technical overview

JF Subsea manufacture a 'Luffing' type diver deployment frame which is specifically designed for conducting diving operations from fixed or mobile platforms. The diver deployment frame is an A-frame and hydraulic winching arrangement, mounted on a transportable base frame.

The frame is supplied with two independent winches and HPUs that are mounted at the inboard end of the base frame. The HPUs are powered by two independent electrical power supplies, which operate the winches for the dive basket and clump weight. The lift wires are routed under a false deck and run from the underside of the winch drums towards the diversion sheaves mounted on each of the support stools of the A-frame which then run up the arms to the head sheave. This enables the wires to be concealed, keeping the working area of the base frame clear of trip hazards.

When deployed, the A-frame lays outboard at an angle of 35 degrees to the vertical and when manoeuvred inboard by 15 degrees, however, the luffing cylinders can be closed fully to bring the A-frame inboard further to 45 degrees for transit or road transportation.

The operator is positioned at the inboard end of the frame which has easy access to the hydraulic controls and HPUs, whilst allowing good visibility to the launch area. It is a robust system that can be quickly positioned, commissioned and tested upon any worksite. Each system can be tailed to suit specific customer requirements and all systems are supplied with a complete certification data pack.
